Just Here in This Moment

By K. Hayden

Just here in this moment can I be.

Can I be with what is here in this moment for just one breath?

Letting the weight of every worry evaporate like mist on an early morning.

Can I release all that feels heavy, the worry, the planning, the judgement, and the replaying? What would it feel like to sit with the feeling of the moment—free of all that weighs us down?

A sense of lightness and joy as we become truly present.

Even for just one breath

But it takes intention.

We have carried this weight for so long, we may feel naked without it.

Although heavy, it is a comfort we know.

What to do if we are released from all the thoughts that follow us like a shadow just out of reach

Can we be here just in the moment, totally exposed?

Imagine the beauty that is within our grasp if we can release and let go.

Just here in this moment, for just one breath.

Reflections on the Poem

This poem is an invitation to pause, breathe, and notice what is present in this moment. In our daily lives, we often carry heavy mental loads—worries, planning, judgments, and endless “what-ifs.”

These thoughts can feel familiar and even comforting, yet they also prevent us from fully experiencing life as it is right now.

Mindfulness is the practice of intentionally returning to the present moment, even for just one breath. As the poem suggests, letting go isn’t always easy. The weight we carry may feel like part of our identity. Yet when we release it, even briefly, we can discover a profound sense of lightness, joy, and clarity.
